Alur Álvinnsla ehf

Health, Safety
& Environment

Safety within the company is a top priority for Alur Álvinnsla, for employees and contractors alike. We work continuously to identify and manage hazards in our working environment, with the aim of achieving an accident-free workplace. All Alur employees receive safety training, and operating procedures are introduced and followed up through weekly meetings. Employees carry out risk assessments for all tasks and carefully track any irregularities, since incidents can always be learned from and mishaps prevented through good communication and shared safety goals.

Safety reviews are carried out regularly to ensure the company's safety culture meets required standards, with improvements made where needed. Our safety representative has completed courses through the Administration of Occupational Safety and Health and oversees the company's safety matters.

Alur Álvinnsla is part of the environmental monitoring program for the industrial plants at Grundartangi, one of the most extensive and closely monitored industrial areas in the country. The purpose of the monitoring is to assess the impact of activity in the industrial area on the environment, under a monitoring plan approved by the Environment Agency of Iceland (Umhverfisstofnun). Monitoring covers air quality, river water, vegetation, grazing animals, marine life, and the surrounding environment of the tailing ponds.

Alur Álvinnsla's goal is to minimize negative environmental impact. We seek out the most efficient methods available for the use of raw materials and energy, and we work with approved partners to recycle waste generated during our process.

All waste is sorted at Alur's facility and delivered to appropriate partners. Alur Álvinnsla's goal is for all waste to be reused or recycled. One emissions measurement is carried out annually under the supervision of the Environment Agency of Iceland, and a green accounting report is submitted to the agency each year.
